RE: Getting X Working in domU's
I haven't heard anyting on this in a couple of days so I thought I'd try
one more post to see if anyone has a response:

I know that there have been mixed confirmations about getting X working
within domU's. But for those who have actually got it working, I would be

interested in finding out your experiences. Currently, when I try to run
Xorg -configure or startx, it complains about xf86OpenConsole: Cannot
open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory). My domU is currently running

Fedora Core 3.

Thanks,
Joe

What are you actually aiming to do? Give a real physical monitor to the domU
(i.e. dual head with a different head for each domain?) or just get a
graphical interface to the domU is a window in dom0?

Cheers,
Mark

The current solution is to use an existing network-aware display system. X
would work fine as you describe, VNC also works pretty well and NX should
perform quite nicely.

In the medium term, we're likely to get a virtual framebuffer device so that
the domUs display system doesn't need to be network-aware.

The virtual console switching solution you describe has also been discussed
and may be implemented at some stage.

Long term, a virtual 3D device (high performance 3D graphics from a domU, in a
window under dom0) is something we'd like to see.

Cheers,
Mark

I was looking to start an xserver on it so that I could display it on tty8
or tty9, for example. I guess I could go into my domU's console (or
through ssh) and export DISPLAY to my dom0. That would probably be a
workaround. But It would be nice to change tty's to 8 and be on one domU,
tty9 for a different domU, etc..

Re: RE: Getting X Working in domU's [ In reply to ]
Joe,

What I've done is start a VNC server on domU and connect to it
(vncviewer) from another box.
