DVS choices for XenServer
Hello Everyone,

DVSC was good and is really helpful to create CrossServer private switches,
however Citrix has decided to abandon it.

I'm looking for alternate options to DVSC and found NOX to be working with
OpenVSwitch of XenServer. I would like to explore possibilities of having a
CrossServer/CrossPool private switches with help of OpenVSwitch on
Xenserver.

I added my switches to NOX and can see topology however XenCenter does not
give an option to create CrossServer Private Network.

Any hits/advices ?

Thanks,
Rushikesh J

Hi Rushikesh,

as per Tech Preview Release Notes:
"Prior deprecation notice for Distributed Virtual Switch Controller (DVSC) now rescinded."

So no problem to stay with DVSC :)

Hey Rishi,

As of right now, there are no alternatives (that I'm aware of, I
stopped looking about 9 months ago) to replace the DVSC. We're
currently waiting on someone to pickup the project and build one from
scratch.

Wonderful !!!

So the cross server switch in single pool works & will work :) Now if
Xenserver wants to get ahead of other hypervisors & wants to have a cross
pool virtual switch, will it be possible ? I can vouch for extensive
testing if required.

Also since the DVSC is back, are there any plans to let people like us
extend it ? Like I found POXNOX apis to be good to use for implementing
firewall and other stuff.
