The Festival Edition goes global
Hello Wikimedians! It's four weeks to our Festival Wikimania 2022 and We
are happy to let you three important updates as follows:???? Wikimania
Festival will have scheduled programming that rotates between three
longitudinal zones: Asia-Oceania; the Americas; and Africa, Europe, and the
Middle East.
This year, apart from the core UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English,
French, Russian and Spanish), the Wikimania Festival will provide live
interpretation on a rotating basis into Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese,
Portuguese, Swahili, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
Moreover, as part of a hybrid Wikimania, Wikimedia affiliates around the
globe will be hosting interactive in-person events, from watch parties to
edit-a-thons, to slumber parties and picnics. For more info please visit
our Diff post

When can we expect the last program submissions to be decided on? I, for
one, am yet to receive word about a submission I've made.

Thanks,

A.

Thank you Sandra. This looks lovely; is there a map of the local in-person
events planned?

Dear Asaf,

Many thanks for the question regarding program submissions. The programming
team is hard at work and is planning to communicate with those who
submitted their sessions this Friday. Keep your eye out for it.

Best,

Sandra
On behalf of Wikimania 2022 Core Organising Team.

Re: The Festival Edition goes global [ In reply to ]
Dear Samuel,

Thanks for your thoughts on this, and for your endorsement of our general
language approach. In an ideal world we’d be able to offer all the
languages of Wikimedia communities across all days. In light of the
situation in Ukraine, we decided to prioritize interpretation into
Ukrainian as an additional language supported on two days of the event.
Unfortunately we won’t be able to extend it this time around, but future
Wikimanians will continue to experiment with different language approaches.

Regarding the map of in person local events, we are collecting local events on
this page <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/In-person_events> and are
asking/reminding all affiliates to please add their events there. Once we
have a good list, a Core Organising Team member will be starting a map with
those events. We’d like to invite everyone to collaborate on and add to the
map once it is started.

We hope this answers your questions.

Best regards,

Sandra
