Without meaning to spam too much, my thoughts on it are here:

Is Scarian a reader only? I thought he was an en.wikipedia admin ;-)

Also - he says he hates flashing ads with moving targets, something
wholly separate from a sidebar of text Google ads. I don't think anything
more "flashy" than that will ever find a home on Wikimedia projects, and
rightfully so.

He mentions flash/graphic ads at the beginning of his post, but goes
on to talk about Google-style ads.

Scarian is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Scarian I think. He is a
blogger on the planet wikimedia aggregator also. Not that his views
don't matter of course. :)

He dislikes flashy - gamelike adds that completely distracts you from what
you were doing? Imagine that...

How about nothing more flashy than "whitespace" ads never find a home
on Wikimedia projects?

You know, those ads with no graphics, no text, and no visible or
audible components at all? I like those ads, I don't even bother
blocking them.

It's almost like having no ads at all.

Todd,

In a perfect world no websites would ever have ads and you wouldn't need
to bother blocking any - and in that world, everyone would respond
meaningfully and on topic to list posts. Unfortunately for you and I,
we don't appear to live in that particular world.
