VNC not asking for password
After na epic struggle I finally managed to get VNC server installed and
running on my new centos linux server and I can vnc to it just fine - but
it is NOT asking me for a password, just lets me right in. I have tried
vncpasswd and it asks for a new password and to verify it, but I still get
right in with no password request. Any hints anyone?

Thanks

RE: VNC not asking for password [ In reply to ]
Hi there,

I recently went through a similar thing. When you remote in, are you
already logged in directly at the CEntOS box? I found that you needed
to follow some specific instructions if you wanted to be able to log in
remotely, otherwise the setup only allowed screen sharing. I'm not sure
what's going on with your installation, but I can tell you what worked
for me.

Basically, you can follow the instructions on this page:

http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server

More specifically, the section titled "Remote login with
vnc-ltsp-config":

http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server#head-590bc681fe9ae3aeff8f574586

I also had success with the steps found on this blog page:

http://codeghar.wordpress.com/2009/06/11/remote-login-with-gdm-and-vnc-o
n-fedora-11/

I'm using this setup now, as I was able to customize the installation to
my liking...

Hope this helps,
