is it correct that varnish omit some headers when
the answer is a 304?

Yes, the 304 is entirely synethetic.

Is that giving you problems ?

We have changing max-age values. but these
do not propagate through when varnish
delivers 304.

Is it possible to fix this myself with VCL?
