SVN version 1.3 from ports is what I should use ?

Any magic parameters I need to know ?

Are there changes from svn1.2 (as documented in the book) to svn1.3
that I should know about ?

Nothing you will notice; most of the differences are on the server
side and in code internals. There is a summary here:
