Still receive messages from other IPs.
Hi,

Recently we setup our SPF record with the following value: "v=spf1 a mx
-all".

Then I made a test to check whether we will receive messages from our
domain, but not from our IP on the kitterman.com web site.

The test says that the mail should Fail.

My purpose was to be able to receive messages with our domain only from our
IP address.

After that I made a small application which can send message from
arbitrarily address. I sent a message from it with FROM setup with address
from our domain. I sent a message from a different IP Address and I receive
it.

Did our SPF record is setup correctly in order to prevent receiving messages
with our domain but from different IP address, and do we need to do some
additional to prevent it?

Best regards,

Angel Chorbadzhiev

Have you implemented an SPF filter?

Vic.

The answer depends on the MTA you're using, and which of the many
options you use to check SPF.

A list of implementations can be found on the SPF site
(http://www.openspf.org/Implementations). Once you've chosen one it's
documentation should get you going.

An SPF record for your domain will allow anyone who tests for
SPF validity to refuse messages from other senders. If you want to test
for SPF on incoming mail as well you will need to add or enable that
feature in your e-mail server. That may mean asking your ISP if they
check for SPF, if they handle your e-mail for you.
