Out of Memory: Killed process 23133 > (spamd)
Hi

My server is freezing all the time and I have this error in my console.

I detected that some spamc process took ages to complete.

I've added -t 30 to the spamc.

Any other ideas beside increase the 1Gbyte memory?

Thanks
Oscar

Are you running spamd with the -m switch?

Yes: I reduced to 3 but take a look at this:

spamc 10748 8.5 0.8 100316 2244 ? S 15:10 0:15 [spamd]
spamc 10785 1.3 17.8 101236 45592 ? D 15:10 0:02 [spamd]
spamc 10786 0.8 18.2 100404 46604 ? D 15:10 0:01 [spamd]
spamc 10787 0.7 18.2 100420 46652 ? D 15:10 0:01 [spamd]
spamc 10966 1.3 9.2 100776 23552 ? D 15:12 0:00 [spamd]
spamc 10967 1.1 9.2 100780 23532 ? D 15:12 0:00 [spamd]
spamc 10968 0.3 8.8 100352 22596 ? D 15:12 0:00 [spamd]

How come there are so many processes when I configured -m3 and restarted
spamassassin?

These are spamc processes waiting for an open spamd slave.

For 1G memory you can probably safely bump that up to -m20 without
trouble; note that this depends on how much else you have running on
this system. I run -m7 on a PII/450 system with 512M, running quite a
few other CPU/memory-hungry mail-related processes; I've also taken
measures in several other places to prevent too many spamc calls from
happening at the same time in the first place.

What processor is in this system? Which OS? What else are you running
on it? How is SA called?

P4. RH9. qmail+vpopmail+mysql+qmail-scanner+SA+vexira antivirus.
Called from /var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl

One suggestion would be to throttle back the number of inbound smtp
connections until spamd caught up.
