Hi all,
rsyslog 4.1.1, a member of the development branch, has been released
today. Most importantly, it now contains the ability to drop privileges,
thus enabling it to be executed without root permissions even if
listening to privileged network ports. The release also contains a fix
for a memory leak in the postgres output module and a fix for the klog
input module, which did not compile under BSD.

Change Log:

The "privilege drop" functionality was discussed on this list and, while
not perfect, seems to provide some useful service. A number of
restrictions is described here:

I would like to express my gratitude for all opinions raised. If you
have any more comments, please let them flow. Also feel free to add
anything of interest to the Wiki. Obviously, I would be very interested
in feedback from folks who really try the new functionality out.
I hope this release is useful.
Rainer
