Newby questions
If there is a reference which answers these questions please point me to it (I've read the documentation through RIP). The "situation" is a Linux-based firewall with two Internet-connected interfaces and a few private network interfaces. A few Internet IP addresses are being NATed to various private IP addresses, all public IP access is through the two firewall interfaces. I need to inform the co-location facility (Cisco environment) where the systems are located that the Internet IP addresses are available through either firewall interface, updating the information if an interface fails. I'm assuming RIP is more than adequate for my needs and have ignored more complex protocols.


Questions:


If interfaces and static routing configuration is already done in the OS, do I need to use the Zebra commands to define them?

To accomplish what I want, do I simply redistribute the kernal routing information to RIP and let it announce it? If yes, do I need to filter the private ranges or is that handled automatically?
Am I going about this the wrong way (wouldn't be the first time) and is there a simpler way to accomplish what i want?

Whatever the question, RIP is never the answer.

BGP is the best choice for exchanging routing between a supplier and a customer.
