Ntop Cisco NetFlow Support
Hi all,
starting with the current version (please resync using CVS), ntop sports
Cisco NetFlow support
(http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/iosw/ioft/neflct/tech/napps_wp.htm).
In a few words, NetFlow is a tecnology developed by Cisco that many
people are using for IP accountin and billing. A Cisco router (with
NetFlow support) properly configured, exports via UDP to an external
machine traffic information in so called flows. The external machine
collect such flows and aggregates them as needed.

Ntop NetFlow support is enabled via the -g host:port (host:port
identifies the NetFlow collector address). At this point ntop acts as a
Cisco Router NetFlow Exporter, i.e. it sends flows to the collector
similar to other Linux-based solutions such as sFlow
(http://www.inmon.com/probes.htm) that costs several thousand dollars.

There are several open source and commercial solutions available that
are based on NetFlow
(http://www.switch.ch/tf-tant/floma/references.html), so you can start
you NetFlow-based collection with ntop right now.

Have fun with NetFlow and please report me bugs.

Cheers, Luca

This is very good news. We have been using custom perl scripts for our
NetFlow collection and analysis.

Netflow support is definately going to be a usefull addition. One question
though, will it be possible to run the Netflow collector on the same machine
that Ntop (Netflow exporter) will be running on?
