ntop passive FTP support
Hi all,
I've just added FTP's passive mode support. The code is in CVS now.
Please check whether the code works.

Thanks, Luca

Looks good, at least for now. That whole issue about Ntop stalling at
the one hour mark is still hauting me. Very happy to see this added!

Just compared ntop snapshot "7 June, 2001" with "6 June, 2001".
Passive ftp traffic is now correctly labeled as "FTP" traffic, instead of
just "Other TCP/UDP-based Prot.".

testing:
Did a ~100MB transfer, from a local (intern LAN) ftp server (Linux, proftpd).
Ntop ran on the same local box, as the ftp transfer was initiated from
(desktop running RH 7.1 Raw Hide)
Only passive ftp-transfers are allowed from the intern ftp-server.

With ntop snapshot "6 June, 2001", the passive ftp traffic was labeled "Other
TCP/UDP-based Prot." insted of "FTP"

With ntop snapshot "7 June, 2001" (Generated by ntop v.2.0.0 MT (SSL)
[i686-pc-linux] (06/07/01 01:06:10 PM build) listening on [eth0])
the passive ftp traffic was correctly labeled as ftp-traffic.

Ntop's ftp traffic accounting seems correct: the transfer only showed up as
Local to Local. The amount of sent & recieved & total traffic seems correct.

But, there is something I don't quite understand; when comparing "Data Rcvd
-> All protocols" and "Data Sent -> All protocols" the percentage numbers
looks wrong:

"Data Sent -> All protocols":
ftp-server 99.8 MB 49.1 %
ftp-client 6.0 MB 3.0 %
other ~ 2.0 MB

"Data Rcvd -> All protocols"
ftp-client 99.8 MB 49.1 %
ftp-server 6.0 MB 3.0 %
other ~ 2.0 MB

The MB numbers looks correct, but the % column doesn't add up. The most
intuitive way to read such a column would be, that % numbers would correspond
to the MB numbers on the left, but they don't. The % numbers doesn't even
make sense, when comparing Data Sent & Data Recieved.

Luca,
Works great ..... PASV FTP

Luca you reported to me that INTOP for Solaris 8 Intel should work now
but still :Initializing ntop engine... Please wait
Segmentation Fault - core dumped.

And Pep issue is also there :

If I run ntop from the directory where I compiled it, it starts ok the
plugin (from
./plugins ) :
23/May/2001:16:25:43 Welcome to Pep (Perl embedded Plugin) (c) 2000 R.
Carbone <rocco@ntop.org>.

If I start it from anywhere ( /usr/local/bin in PATH) it gives error :
23/May/2001:16:21:35 WARNING: unable to load
plugin'/usr/local/lib/ntop/plugins/libpep.so'
[.ld.so.1: ./ntop: fatal: relocation error: file
/usr/local/lib/ntop/plugins/libpep.so: symbol perl_destruct: referenced
symbol not found]

regards
Jac
