Does this mean that there is no image on the flash or the flash is
currupted? What is the commnad to see the contents of flash. Basically I am
trying to boot this router from the flash. Can anyone point me to the right
direction?

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wajahat

the flash could be missing from the boot list.

use the following cmd to check,

root@slippery% sysctl machdep.bootdevs

machdep.bootdevs: pcmcia-flash,compact-flash,disk,lan

If it does not, issue the following command (M5, M10, M20, M160):

root@slippery% sysctl -w
machdep.bootdevs=pcmcia-flash,compact-flash,disk,lan

After hitting 'enter,' you should see:

machdep.bootdevs: pcmcia-flash,compact-flash,disk,lan

To verify it has been entered in sysctl do the following:

root@router% sysctl -a | grep bootdev

Then, reboot the router.

just to add to that; adding CF (or a harddisk for that matter) back on the bootlist is not necessarily what you want to do. Question is, why was it removed from the list in the first place. Might be worth going back through the messages.log to see if there's any specific errors related to the CF, or check the boot-messages (show system boot-messages).
