Tenable has depreciated it. NSR output is still available in a few of our
products, but .nessus is the standard going forward.

Interesting. Your answer makes me wonder what Tenable position is regarding .NBE output. Is it the same?

Thanks,

François

We do not _recommend_ using .nbe, because it gives you less context
than the .nessus format, but at this time there is no plan to remove it.

I run .nbe output through an emacs macro to produce a csv file with just
machine name, plugin number and a short description. This makes a to-do
list of things to fix. I'm scanning only Windows machines that are
mostly up-to-date, so the list of short descriptions I have to maintain
is less than 1% of the total plugin count. So I'm glad to hear that
.nbe will continue to be supported.

This actually segues nicely in to a topic I've been meaning to look in to for a long time but haven't had the time to do so.

I know .nessus is the newest, recommended output type, but how does it differ from the .xml output?

Hi Dave,

Which XML output are you referring too?

This would be a great topic for a discussion on the new portal: https://discussions.nessus.org/
especially since this list will be going away shortly.
