As to the OP's question, Nessus 3.x has always been flakey for me on
Gentoo. Though I have not seen your specific error recently.

What Michel probably meant to ask is which variant did the OP install
-- we don't make one available for Gentoo specifically.

Actually, I'm using: Nessus-3.2.1-fc9.i386.rpm

Got symlinked ssl libraries:
(/usr/lib)

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 »Øá 23 17:37 libcrypto.so.7->libcrypto.so.0.9.7

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 »Øá 23 17:37 libssl.so.7 -> libssl.so.0.9.7
