Re: NANOG Meeting [ In reply to ]
The NANOG Meeting will be Monday, 9/11 9:00AM - 5:00PM and Tuesday, 9/12
9:00AM -12:00PM with a continental breakfast each morning at 8:30AM. This
meeting will be held in Philadelphia, PA.

Umm, last I checked, the NANOG meeting was supposed to be at the Pittsburgh
Supercomputing Center, which I believe is about a six to eight hour drive from
Philadelphia. I assume the above is a typeo...

Ah, no, this is just the ultimate in address portability.

Sig files are so annoying. I never use 'em. You see, it's hard to
determine what the best thing is to go in that, oh, four lines or so at
the bottom, and you know you want to make it something meaningful, at
least to you. So, I just don't use 'em.

Yes, I do want to get a room. Kathy, can you reserve a room for me the same
nights Randy Bush is there? Thank you.

we will need to make reservations for all Whitney, Chris and John. I think
Andrew and Randy are already set. We are going to have a staff meeting
pre-NANOG. des

You forgot the reverse vampires, who are in league with the space
aliens as part of the massive government conspiracy. They're simply
trying to eliminate "dinner." No-one's being harvested; that theory
turned out to be a misinterpretation of a dusty cook-book cover.

Excuse me. They prefer to be called "saucer people". I suspect you'll
be hearing from the lawyers of the Saucer People Anti-Defamation League
momentarily (as soon as they figure out how to turn off recursion on
their Linux box so they can rejoin the Andromeda Galaxy root nameserver
confederation).

And don't forget the black helicopters. They followed the
Flem-Man over from the NAIPR list.

Since NANOG is promoting the education, hopefully
people will be informed that Mr. Michael Dillon has strong
views on some of the various leading edge movements on
the Internet. He has also been one of the major advocates
for the IAHC. The IAHC has not followed through with
registries as promised and now we have brokers out there
pre-registering people in Top Level Domains that do not
exist and do not have TLD Name Servers. Mr. Michael
Dillon has supported the actions of these brokers and
claims they are providing a useful service.

Does NANOG support that kind of activity ?

I was mostly concerned about your description of IANA because there are a
number of people and organizations who are spreading misinformation and
pure FUD about IANA in and attempt to get the U.S. government to usurp
IANA's authority and enforce a restricted monopoly system of domain names.

I personally am opposed to both the Internic/NSI schemes
http://www.netsol.com/papers/internet.html
and the eDNS schemes http://www.edns.net and the name.space schemes
http://www.pgpmedia.com/ns./com/reg_noframe.html

One strategy that these people are using is to claim that IANA does not
really exist or to claim that IANA has no authority to do what it has done
for many years or that someone else (DOD, USC, FNC, ...) really is in
charge of the IANA.

I know it can be hard to figure out what's really going on with so much
FUD being distributed so I don't blame you for misunderstanding the
relationships between USC and IANA.

Hi,

>But Mark Kosters did note that J has been deployed to LINX in London

The IANA has indicated J should be delegated to WIDE in Japan last
week (202.12.27.33), however I note that the delegation has not yet
been done...

Oh well.... I got the letter names mixed up but the principle remains.
There are purely root nameservers out there, one is in London and
deployment for two others in Asia/Pacific is imminent.
