Leanfront quiet on Chromecast
When I watch any of my other Chromecast apps (YouTube, Netflix, Jellyfin,
etc) I can get a comfortable listening volume at around 24 on my LG. But
when I watch shows on Leanfront, I have to crank it to 45+.

The audio setting in Leanfront is set to auto. I tried setting it to media
code, but it appears have gone silent, so I'm assuming with auto it's
choosing ffmpeg.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but I also have to raise the
volume when using Leanfront on my Sony Google TV and FireTV 4k sticks and
then lower again for every other app.

Well at least I'm not the only passenger on the boat. That gives us a
starting point.

Various factors can contribute to the volume level difference. If the
recording uses a format that is supported by your sound system (for
example AC-3), and you have the correct settings in android setup, and
you select mediacodec, the encoded stream goes directly to the sound
system, where it is decoded into surround sound. In this case, the
android device has no control of the volume.

leanfront does nothing to affect the volume, whether or not it is passed
through to the sound system. If you select ffmpeg decoding, or you
select auto and the system selects ffmpeg, the audio is decoded by
ffmpeg and sent as PCM digital audio to the TV. Nothing is done to
affect the volume. To change the volume would require modifying the
digital stream.

There may be android settings on your device (e.g. quiet mode) that let
you adjust the overall audio volume or volume range.

If you use Silicon Dust devices and install the "Live Channels" android
app, does the volume reflect the same as LeanFront?

Just working on the home right now, so will check later. Do you mean the
live channels on SD"s HDHomerun app or do you mean Channels for HDHomerun
by Fancybits LLC. Unfortunately that one appears to be $39.99 so I wouldn't
be purchasing it.

Just to clarify the setup for this situation:

LG 720p TV (so stereo only)
No external sound system
Chromecast for Google TV 4K

Thanks.

It comes pre-installed on nVidia Shields, but is also installable on
Android TV devices.

On my system which is:
1. FireTV plugged into Sony TV with AV receiver connected via Optical from
TV
2. Google TV built in to Sony TV with AV receiver connected via Optical
from TV

On #1 above I can set Leanfront to Mediacodec and the sound volume is still
lower on LIveTV than on the SiliconDust HD app on FireTV. However, I can
use the FireTV level audio output and that fixes the problem.

On #2 above, volume is close to being the same.

Installed Live Channels. (Oddly it doesn't show in the Chromecast Apps
menu. You have to go Settings>Apps>System Apps.)

Volume the same there as both Leanfront live and Leanfront recording of
same content.

Ok, so I take that as a HDHR volume level issue of some sort. Peter
alluded to there not being volume code in MythLeanfront, and that pretty
much proves it. It must be something between the HDHRs and Android I
suppose. Not sure where to go from there since I no longer have HDHRs or
use MythTV. I am possibly starting back though :)
