mythfrontend crashing code 139
not sure what to do, but I started getting this after I changed from vaapi
high quality deinterlacing to medium quality. I ran it from the console.
This is a new NUC ASRock 1165G7 with Intel GFX. I'll go back to OpenGL
standard for now, but thought I'd report.

From a command line as root

updatedb (Makes sure the locate database is up to date)

locate libvdpau_va_gl.so

If locate finds that on your system, then it's probably not in a
standard library path.

If not, then your missing a package if you used a PPA or you're missing
a developer library if you compiled from source.

I recently did the mythtv install by 'sudo add-apt-repository
ppa:mythbuntu/31'. Then I 'sudo apt install mythtv-frontend'.

I didn't worry about the libvdpau being missing because it's Intel GFX. So
if it's needed the apt install mythtv-frontend should have added it, right?

What do I install to fix the missing libvdpau_va_gl.so?

BTW, it works fine with OpenGL High Quality video profile, except that the
tearing is still as bad as Intel GFX 10 years ago. Iris GFX still isn't as
good as a Nvidia GT 710

The good thing is I only use this PC to watch local news sometimes. My TV
watching is usually with Nvidia Shield TV, so no issues there.

Quick update. I installed libvdpau-va-gl1 and that fixed the missing
library, but it still crashes when I use vaapi profile. Back to OpenGL High
Quality

Given that you are (or were) trying to use vaapi: what does vainfo say
when you run it from a terminal?

I do not know the current status for Xe support, but some
number of months ago Intel Xe graphics reportedly
needed later kernel support (and likely some other intel
driver/media components) than ubuntu LTS was
providing. You may need to install ubuntu's OEM kernel.

For testing purposes, perhaps install ubuntu 21.04.

I'll try the OEM kernel. I had it installed but found 5.8 HWE worked and
backed down to LTS with 5.8 for stability. The gfx definitely will not work
with 5.4

I just installed the OEM kernel (5.10.0-1023-oem) and tested VAAPI
Normal profile. Still crashed. I switched back to OpenGL High Quality.
The only real issue is that on high action, about 10% down from the top
there is some tearing. Not sure if this is Wayland, X11, or mythtv. But
it could just be early in the Xe GFX support.

Just for fun I tried to boot the install USB for Ubuntu 21.04 and it
would not boot at all. An error about /boot pops up briefly and goes
away before I can read it. Then the system is complete dead.

I have found this is not unique to me but happens to others with NUC
1165G7 devices regardless of brand.

Any outstanding firmware updates?

Up to date as of now, but I should have gotten something older. My PC with
Ryzen 5 3600 with GT 1030 is way better at Mythtv. But I didn't get the new
PC primarily as a frontend. So I'll live with it.
