backend setup. Help says to change setting in settings.pro file but I
cant find the thing. Any help would be appreciated.

did you compile mythtv yourself, or get it from RPM? when you download the
source, its in the mythtv directory (the one you do make / make install
in).... change it and recompile

Got from RPM using the apt-get mythtv-suite command. Didn't compile
manually. Do I need to?

I haven't installed it MythTV yet but try

find / -name settings.pro

from a shell as root... This will search your file system for it.

That depends... what kind of CPU do you have? You probably need to build it
yourself if you have one of the earlier AMD chips (anything before the
Athlon XP, I think).

Side note...

I previously installed using the apt-get method as you have done. Be aware
that the mythweather installed this way included a bug which was corrected
in cvs. If you need myth weather, you will need to use cvs, or wait for
version 0.11. You can see the thread at:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/perl/mailarc/gforum.cgi?post=72968

output in terminal window says: internal error or area not defined
while on the screen it says ~"3 attempts failed; will try again in 5
minutes."

I emailed Axel who created the rpm's (he was very kind and helpful BTW);
he said he would create new rpm's when the new version was released. Per
Axel, it has been recommended on the dev list that rpm's NOT be created for
cvs snapshots.
