bttv driver & Aver Studio TV Tuner
I have tried everything I can to make AverStudio and Myth TV work for
the past 1 week.

With bttv 0.7.107 driver it simply won't work. Most of the time the
screen comes blank. Some lucky times that it comes up, I find that on a
couple of channel changes mythtv freezes. The back end keeps on printing
VIDIOCSYNC0: Invalid argument
VIDIOCSYNC1: Invalid argument

But 0.7 works well with xawtv.

With bttv 0.9.12 driver, the driver itself locks up most of the time on
channel change. Mythtv come up "most" of the time without the blank
screen phenomenon but either locks the driver in a couple of channel
change (and I have to go thru a rmmod + modprobe sequence) or gets back
to printing VIDIOSYNC error !!

Now I am seriously thinking if anyone has a working AverTV + bttv +
MythTV combo, if so can you please share the secret. 'coz I am losing it
!!

PS : Just to add that I have tried gbuffers option, sloppy option etc.
but in vain.

Until a few days ago I had an AverTV Stereo card, and it was working
fine... I don't believe I had to manually specify any parameters to the
bttv driver -- everything was autodetected fine. Myth never seemed to
have any problems with it. Now granted, that's not quite the same as
the AverTV Studio...I've seen some reports (check the archives) that it
requires passing some special options to get it to select the main audio
channel instead of the SAP, but I don't remember seeing any reports of
problems like you're describing.

Try setting bttv in modules.conf to one of the two values.

bttv audiomux=0xff4e

or

bttv audiomux=0x56664e This one worked for me.

I've only ever used the 0.7.x driver.

Re: bttv driver & Aver Studio TV Tuner [ In reply to ]
appeee ....

After trying different version of bttv with all possible different
options, I finally changed the IRQ loop count in the bttv-driver.c from
20 to 200 and preliminary tests all passed. I was able to watch *and(
switch channels in mythtv without any VIDEOSYSC problem. Will do more
testing in the evening.

I am now having a test m/c with ATA33 Hardddisk which I am planning to
upgrade. I see that when I watch TV the pictures kind of jitters. Would
it be coz of ATA33 ? Is ATA 33 enough to sustain the data pumped in by
MythTv ?

ATA 33 should be fast enough. When i first started using mythtv i was
using a slow ata66 drive running in ata 33 mode and had no problems.

One thing you do need to make sure is that you have dma turned on.

How do I check if it is on ? and how to turn it on ?

thx,

check with:
hdparm /dev/hda

where hda is drive you're checking on...
hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
...turns DMa on
-c3 will enable 32 bit transfer mode
-tT will test speed
