Can we match this?
I saw this:

Here are the technical specifications:

Has anyone successfully made an equivalent for this with MythTV for
about the same cost. I couldn't find a way to add all this hardware
without grossly exceeding their budget. It's a shame it's build on top
of Windows XP. BTW, they use TitanTV for their program guide/scheduling.

The RF remote sounds interesting.
$25 gets a remote and a usb rf reciever.
Nice deal for a RF remote.
Hmmm, I'm gonna google for drivers...

Honestly, I get the feeling that an X-box running linux with an RF remote and a USB card adapter gets about the same thing. component video out as well.

It's junk... you don't want to... it's just showshifter, and the titan
tv web based channel guide.

Showshifter isn't bad... but myth has already surpassed it in many ways,
like separate fronends/backends, integrated program guide, and
commercial detection.

I wouldn't be surprised if the RF remote was really just a RF keyboard/mouse
device packaged as a remote (i.e., a standard USB HID kernel device). This
is how the Gyration RF keyboard & mouse work, and they also sell that as an
accessory on their website. If this was the case, it would mean that, like
Myth, their software is primarily keyboard (& maybe some mouse) controlled,
and the RF devices are really just wireless keyboards as far as the software
is concerned. Of course, an RF 'keyboard' in a remote control package
wouldn't have all of the keys a regular keyboard has, and they'd be labelled
appropriately (instead of 'Z' it would say 'Comm Skip'), but in the end
they'd be the same keycodes.

I don't know if this is indeed the case, but if it is then you wouldn't need
any special drivers to use the remote under Linux.

All Prices from pricewatch.com. Assume some quantity discount for a
manufacturer like this.

Via M10000 Motherboard $162.99
PC 2100 DDR 256MB $ 33.00
ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 7500DV $125.00
80GB 7200 RPM Drive $ 68.72
DVD Drive (Read Only - 8x) $ 30.00
6-in-1 media reader (generic) $ 10.00
============================================
$429.71

This is just for the guts of the system. Add your own case and your choice
of RF or IR for keyboard and remote. You should be able to easily beat the
manufacturer integrated price for this solution by shopping around.
RE: Can we match this? [ In reply to ]
Looks an awful lot like the ati rf remote that came with my radeon...
maybe a newer version of the same remote...

I think that's all it is... most of the buttons are laid out exactly the
same.

It's amazing how much money you can save when you don't pay the Microsoft
Tax :-)

Re: RE: Can we match this? [ In reply to ]
Or for the $999 you should be able to get:

CoolerMaster ATC-610-GX1 HTPC Case
CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Seagate 120 GB 7200rpm
512 MB PC2700
MATX Athon XP Motherboard (Asus A7N266-VM?)
Power Supply (Make sure its quiet)
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ or better
WinTV PVR250
Zalman Processor Heatsink and Fan (Keep it quiet!)
Nvidia 440 MX SE based AGP card with TV-out (No Fan on GPU)
Card reader for 3.5" bay
Need a 1394/Firewire card if you are really going to use the FW . . .

This is easy to do under a grand.

Whatever you want :-)

Seriously... CF drives, digital camera/mp3 player memory cards, etc. Useful
for moving files between your PC & handheld devices without carrying a USB
cable around, plus other things.

We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically
intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed,
too. Otherwise they will turn out to be outright traitors.

The remote is just ATI's remote, w/different badging:

Note that their specs include an ATI AIW 7500.

MythGallery supports it (...sort of; you'll
have to write a short script or tweak hotplug to do
