FYI: Zap2it paid service
I discovered that zap2it.com's parent company
(Tribune) is beta testing a new subscription based
guide, that is a raw data dump of your guide info. It
is XML based, and runs as a web service. The product
is called Data Direct. Not sure when it goes G/A.

If it's good data and the subscription is reasonable, I might be a
customer some day. Even w/o mythTV capability, the searchable data base
of upcoming TV listings is far superior to anything available on paper
or a listings channel.

A time comes when silence is betrayal. Even when pressed by the demands of
inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government's
policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without
great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought, within one's
own bosom and in the surrounding world.

That's perfect. Any URLs you could share?

Sure would be nice if this news came with a link, then someone ambitious
might even start looking at the data and writing a grabber.

Of course if it is anything like their "Weather Direct Data" well... ick.

has anyone ever looked into the grabbing methods other software programs
use, particularly those that might come with a TV card that run on
windows....the ATI all in wonder cards come with grabber software that goes
out to a web site and steals content.... i think they use TVGuide.... their
software doesnt require any sort of subscription, and a co-worker of mine
says its very reliable and he never has problems... so the question is, do
they have a special agreement and/or server that they use to get these, and
if so, why couldnt someone reverse-engineer it and make a grabber that uses
the same server?

There is an old adage; something about beggars and choosers that I think
applies here.

You are getting something for free. The simple fact that you want the data
proves it has some value. I think we are all very lucky they don't go out of
their way to mess with grabbers.
