WinTV 250 with split backen/frontend
I am thinking about setting up MythTV is a split frontend/backend
system. I would like to stick the WinTV 250 in my server in the closet,
and use my shuttle next to my TV for viewing. Question is, can I use
the remote that comes with the WinTV250 on another machine? If so, (and
this might be a stupid question), can the remote used on the frontend be
used to change the channels on the backend? Assuming I use the WinTV's
Mpeg2 encoder, what kind of network bandwidth do I need between Backend
and Frontend?

thx,
britt

No. The remote plugs into a jack on the PVR-250 card itself, so if the card
is in a different machine...

Yes. The remote(s) should (need) only be on the frontend(s). A remote on a
backend-only machine would be rather useless for Myth.

Well, if you're using a PVR-250 (which gives larger file sizes), I wouldn't
suggest anything less than a wired 100Mbit ethernet. Others can probably
give you better/more specific recommendations.

Not easily. The IR receiver plugs directly into the PVR250 card. You
can get an IR extender though, but that may be more trouble than it's worth.

If you turn the bitrate down, you could get away with switched 10Mbps.
