Mythtv.9 - increased choppiness of video/ dropped frames
I too have observed this increased choppiness as well. I think
something changed on or around 5/27 in CVS that rendered playback (or is
it encoding?) choppy compared to before. Ever since that time
subsequent recordings have had dropped frames lasting around 1 sec. or
so, and generally comes in bunches...

I can't put my finger on where in the code is responsible for the
choppiness coming from, but my system has had no change (HW/SW) besides
mythtv for at least two months now. I've even turned off cron to
eliminate this possibility but it still happens...

Nothing of importance changed in that time period.

I have been trying to find out what is causing this. I reverted to my
previous norton ghost install with the mythtv cvs version of 5/25/03 and
redhat 9 kernel version 2.4.20-13.9 thinking that it was a kernel
problem. That mythtv cvs version works fine without the choppy video.
Still thinking it was the kernel, I installed the latest cvs version of
mythtv and reproduced the choppy video. So it cant be the kernel.
Reverted to my norton ghost backup of last night prior to the mythtv .9
install. Now under the kernel version 2.4.20-18.9. The cvs version of
5/25/03 = no choppiness. Installed mythtv current cvs (0.9) and there
the choppiness is back. There;s gotta be something in the new mythtv
release causing this. I have had no hardware changes at all. All
settings are the same. And now no apparent difference with different
kernel versions.

Seems like not everybody is having these problems. Some have even
reported increased speed. Maybe it is system specific. My system is an
AMD Athlox XP 2400+ with Soyo KT400 motherboard and dual TV tuners: ATI
TV Wonder and ATI TV Wonder VE, using SB Live 5.1 and btaudio.

When you say you are you using btaudio, you are using it with the TV
Wonder and not the VE, right? If you know some trick to getting it to
work with the VE, please clue me in... I gave up on it and just stuck
with pass-thru sound.

Thanks,
Aran

Re: Mythtv.9 - increased choppiness of video/ dropped frames [ In reply to ]
Only on the TV wonder , not the VE. I use the SB live line in for the
VE line out.
