PVR 250/350 vs CPU power
Somebody on the list raised an interesting point. With current prices for PVR 250 and even more for 350 wouldn't it be a more cost effective (wise) solution to invest in raw CPU power than in PVR cards?

You can buy AMD Athlon 2000+ and a motherboard combo for less than $100.

Am I missing something here or the CPU power is a better way to go?

Not really if you are looking at a multi tuner system. Or if you want high
quality video then a PVR card is the way to go. The real advantage is that
you could use that machine to do a lot of things at once:

Play and record TV while serving webpages and mp3s to other systems. Or you
could watch a dvd while the system is recording in the backgroud. The added
value is greater for the total machine. Really depends on the user. Some
may just want more processor time for distributed.net.
