TV-out interference
I'm still having a little difficulty with the picture output from my
MythTV box, and wondered if anyone here would have a clue as to what's
going on.

If I connect my PC to my TV, with my aerial cable dirctly into the TV
card, I get a nice clear picture.
However the aerial connection is first passed through either my VCR or
my Sky digibox then I get interference; vertical bands sweeping
right-to-left at about 3 per sec.
I also get exactly the same visual interferencce problem if I don't
connect the aerial, but instead connect the audo-out of my sound card
into my Yamaha amp (If I connect the audio-out to my TV, which is in
turn connected to the amp, there is no interference).

I've no idea what the problem might be (audio/video/electrical isn't my
field at all) - can anyone point me in the right dirction?

This is so very close to working that I'm pulling my hair out in
frustration.

Many thanks,
Dave.

It could be that the signal coming out of the TV card is not strong
enough to withstand passing through the VCR. If it works when you hook
it up directly to your TV, I would suggest purchasing an A/B switchbox
and using that to toggle through Myth and your VCR.

I would check if the different devices are connected to different
outlets. If so, try connecting the VCR/PC/TV to the same outlet and see
if that helps.

I take it you mean mains outlets?
If so then, yes, they are all connected to the same outlet (a whole
bunch
of stuff is connected to same same outlet, which might be a bit dodgy,
elictrically
speaking, I guess; TV, amp, PS/2, DVD, Tivo, PC, subwoofer, CD player,
VCR).
Of course, if there were more available wall sockets I'd have used 'em,
but there's
only the one...

Cheers,
Dave.

I had a similar problem connecting my computer to my stereo a while back
(terriable 60hz noise problem)... it's definitely a grounding issue.
Look for a 60hz noise filter for coax cable, should be able to find one
at radio shack. For audio noise a ground loop filter solved my issue,
as did using the optical output (logically).

You may also try making your own coax cable and not connect the shield
at one end so that the shield doesn't carry the ground between devices
(I would use the PC end and just use the center conductor on the vcr
end... it could result in lesser quality though.
