Why does sound work fine with mythtv, but sound bad with mythmusic?
Maybe this question should be in the -dev list.

My motherboard with the 0.9.2 alsa drivers (and just about every earlier
version) is known to produce a static sound with just about any sound
source with the exception of mythtv. I just got a chance to compile
mythmusic and wouldn't you know it, it has the annoying static too. So
why would mythtv work and mythmusic not? Anybody have a clue?

Depends.. Does it make a difference which source you're playing from?
Does it occur with CDs as well as MP3's? If not, it might just be a pcm
issue.

I hadn't thought about that. I'll test it out and reply, but don't
mythtv and mythmusic both use pcm?

Yes and no.. if you're playing back wav audio, then yes.. If it's cd, then
it's direct from the cdrom (through the drive's audio cable).

Re: Why does sound work fine with mythtv, but sound bad with mythmusic? [ In reply to ]
Happens with both ripped ogg files and with a cd. So it appears to be something
to do with the driver itself. I also noticed last night that DVD playback via
Ogle works just fine for the sound. Ogle is setup to use OSS for sound. This
makes me think that as long as the sound goes via OSS, the sound will be ok. If
set to use native Alsa, then we have a problem. More tests tonight should prove
it once and for all..
