myth backend
Hi, I'm having trouble connecting to myth backend.
Xawtv works fine. When I try to run mythbackend it
only goes to this.

[ivlok@localhost ivlok]$ mythbackend
Starting up as the master server.
Probed: /dev/video0 - Television
Probed: /dev/video0 - Composite1
Probed: /dev/video0 - S-Video
Probed: /dev/video0 - Composite3

and hangs. Is it supposed to do more or run in the
background ?

I can open a new terminal and run mythfrontend and see
all the channels, but when I try to watch tv it locks
up
X windows and I have to ctrl+alt+backspace out.

running Mandrake 9.1
I have winTv Go card
Nvidia g2
soundblaster audigy platinum sound card /w alsa

any help would be much appreciated.

That's all you should see. If you want it to run in the background you
could start it as "mythbackend &" or wrap it in a script.

Does it give you any error messages? Can you switch to a virtual terminal
(Ctrl-Alt-F1}? Try starting it as "mythfrontend 2>1 > mf.log" and post the
output. Are you running KDE? If so, turn off artsd
(http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html#toc18.11) Does the user
running the frontend have read/write permission for your dsp device?

Finally, re-read the docs *carefully* and make sure you've double-checked
everything.

Good luck,

You may also use a combination of the --logfile and --daemon command
line parameters. The CVS HOWTO has been updated to include some
information on this.

THANK YOU !!!!! worked like a charm. But , not I hav
another
weird problem. The sound doesn't turn off wh i leave
mythtv
it stays on even when I reboot X windows. I'm gonna
check out
the troubleshootin' docs to see if someone else has
had this issue.

I hope that soon I'll be able to give back some of the
support
that the folks on this list have given me. You're why
Linux Rocks.

Yes, several hundred people have had this issue ;-). See
the fourth item in the FAQ and:

Are you sure you have the Line-In muted & set to Record? It sounds like
you're getting the direct sound pass-thru from the tuner card. When you
watch LiveTV, are the audio & video out of sync, or do your recorded
shows have no sound? If so, re-read the docs section on audio setup &
double check your configuration.

RE: myth backend [ In reply to ]
Precisely! I also somehow got btaudio to load.
Although my
/etc/modules.conf is as large as the Sunday NY Times
now!! HAR HAR!! But it loads dammit. I've tried a
plethora of mixer settings and this does seem to be
where the issue lies. I'll check the archives and docs
and hopefully find resolution. Again, Thank
you for all your help. It's been truly irreplaceable.

over for now
