Hi & mplayer works but mythtv gives static?
Hi MythTV users,

I am new to MythTV and now this list. I had in mind for sometime to
setup a MythTV server (with frontend) and a couple of other frontends
around the house. So a couple of weeks ago I got myself a Athlon box
with PVR-500 and nVidia GeForce 6600 card (my big TV can take DVI) and
250GB Sata2 drive.

I downloaded Knoppmyth R5C7 and started the install process. After
working through the issues of getting the sata drive to work and
obtaining a listings.xml (sydog) I have struck a snag.
I can't get the mythtv app to tune a station. I just get static. But
the interesting thing is that mplayer works fine on both /video0 and
/video1. After spending a couple of nights looking through the lists, I
can't find the answer.

Can anybody help?

I'm still using a monitor instead of TV, and haven't got the MCEUSB
remote (RC6) that came with the PVR-500 working yet, but have seen list
help for these.

Regards
Simon

Welcome aboard, new users are always welcome.

I believe that there are some tips in the archives about tuning, but I will leave it to someone who has done it to give more concrete advice :-)

My RC6 remote just worked with knoppmyth. But what sort of device is on the computer end? IE what is the "receiver"

Ok are you in Auckland or another area?

I can provide you with a SQL script that will define all of the standard
Auckland TV Channels if you are interested.

Thanks guys, any input you can give would be helpful.

I'm in Christchurch, and have been able to tune TV1,2,3,C4 Prime with
mplayer. Mythtv-setup seemed to do the job for me and my last
mythfilldatabase ran without error, so I was expecting success (Even
seems to be displaying the right info on the mythtv screen). But
no!...?

Steve, I would like to look at/try your script.

My receiver is USB type SMK with two output lines.

Ok looks like you haven't set the UHF/VHF channel numbers in the mythtv
setup.

1. Exit the MythTV Gui

2. Type mythtv-setup

3. Under the channels setup see what channels you have defined (1-4+Prime)

4. Make sure you have the correct UHF or VHF channel for christchurch

5. Exit, restart the backend.

6. Restart front end and try your channels.

If this doesn't work let me know and I'll send you some sql.

Note that in setup, the channel number that the PVR card uses is nothing
to do with the channel number you type. The tuner frequency number is on
the second of the 2 pages for each channel (very confusing). I use channel
number 1... for the Sky channels I get on the svideo input from my Sky box
and the tuner inputs I prefix by 99 so I know they are different!! The
'tuner' channel numbers for Christchurch are as below.

Station My channel number Tuner channel number
One 991 3
2 992 8
3 993 6
C4 994 11
Prime 996 62
Trackside 997 58

Thanks, guys, again,
Now I have TV. The channel number on page 2 thing got me.

This thing is fantastic, well worth the effort. Oh, and the remote works
also.

:-)
