Shuttle PN31 keymap with mythtv
Hi

I have a shuttle PN31 remote, I'm wondering if anyone else has come up with
a keymap file that works particularly well, I don't have all my buttons
mapped and it's a very time consuming process to find out the codes for each
button then work out which key to map it to.

I have been using the following keymap for a while but its not complete,
anyone got some more buttons they can add to it or a swap around that works
well, nb some of these are wrong or don't appear to be working:

keycode 99 = Up
keycode 105 = Down
keycode 144 = Left
keycode 153 = Right
keycode 162 = p
keycode 160 = F9
keycode 174 = F10
keycode 176 = F11
keycode 36 = i
keycode 115 = Return
keycode 39 = m
keycode 233 = z
keycode 111 = u
keycode 129 = r
keycode 230 = d

is this a remote that emulates a keyboard?

Yes, its setup for windows though so buttons need to be mapped to
appropriate functions.

Re: Shuttle PN31 keymap with mythtv [ In reply to ]
Hi Toby,

I'm using one of these remotes however, I regret the purchase. I
should've spent the extra $10 on an MCE remote. Since I already had a
serial LIRC receiver in my case from a previous remote and was annoyed
at the way the keyboard was remapped, I reverted to the LIRC way and
made the shuttle receiver redundant.

Through LIRC the repeat rate is quite high. This is handy for zipping
through a song list in MythMusic but can result in double key presses if
you're not used to it. It's also annoying not having a DVD-like
'diamond' for navigation. For up/down I use PG+/- and left/right I use
L/R - this is very unnatural.

At first I tried mapping the centre mouse pad thingy (big round disc)
but discovered that it comprised of like 32 different points (instead
of the anticipated up/down/left/right) which makes it really hard to
map. That mouse pad, through the shuttle receiver, is supposed to be
detected as a usb mouse and work like magic under WINDOWS. It seems the
the manufacturer didn't stick to the standard. I tried patching kernel
HID stuff but to no avail.

So, Toby, if you're not happy with the current setup, you could either
build an LIRC receiver for like $10 in parts or buy and MCE remote. :)

If you do decide to set aside the time to map the mouse pad, I'd be
interested in the result. Also, if you want a copy of my lircd.conf,
you're welcome.

Regards,

Sam.

I spent $65.00 on a mce usb remote yesterday and it worked straight off.

I have to tweak some of the settings to make it work the way I want, but I like the way knoppmyth recognised and configured it just like that!

I assume you are using this for your main MythTV remote?

If so can you point me at the model and where you got it from - I'm sick to death of using a wired keyboard.

Alternatively, how would won go about getting the remote that comes with old Leadtek TV Deluxe cards working (I admit, I've never even done any research into how one of these may function)?

So is my wife. It seems to be incompatible with the lounge decor. She watches too damn much Living Channel. I had to "declutter" my computer stuff this weekend!

I got it at Computer Future in ChCh for $65.00. I have seen it online for $60.00, someone claimed they paid $40 but then couldn't tell me the website they got it from.

Tastech have them for $60, with a nice pic to show you what it is:

http://www.tastech.co.nz/tvtuners.htm
http://www.tastech.co.nz/details/563.htm

Almost any computer supplier should have one, it is a Microsoft MCE (Media Centre edition) Remote.

It has two bits, the remote itself and a receiver that plugs into the USB bus.

On knoppmyth you plug it in and the kernel loads the lirc_mceusb2 module. you then run the /usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh script, which detects the module is loaded and it just works.

If you are not blessed with knoppmyth then there are then two elements to a lirc configuration. You need a /etc/lircd.conf file - this tells lircd how to read the remote and as a result lirc will know by name which key you have pressed. A good lircd.conf file will have intuitive names for the buttons, loke "OK" for the OK button, "Play" for the right facing green arrow etc.

The other config file is lircrc. This translates button names to something mythtv understands. A typical example:

begin
prog = irxevent
button = Record
config = Key R CurrentWindow
end

That tells lirc that when the Record button is pressed on the remote, lirc should send the "R" button to mythtv (well to the current window actually).

As I say with knoppmyth it is easy, if you have lirc going it should be easy by using a lircd.conf and a lircrc file that suits. If you can't find good examples of those files I am happy to post mine (they are just the knoppmyth ones)

I don't know, the research may pay off. I would suggest looking at the archive for the main mythtv-user mailing list. The archive is right next to ours
