Free to Air DVB-S
Hi,

I moved into a flat that used to have Sky. The dish and all cables
were still there. I had an ancient DVB-S card (Twinhan DST 1020). I
hooked up everything, loaded all the drivers - all devices seem to be
there:

#find /dev/dvb/
/dev/dvb/
/dev/dvb/adapter0
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0
/dev/dvb/adapter0/net0
/dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0
/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0

So I thought - perhaps I should try to scan for some channels. I
presumed that the dish pointed to Optus B1, so I got the list of
channels from http://www.lyngsat.com/optusb1.html, created a file for
dvbscan:

# cat OptusB1-160.0E
# freq pol sr fec
S 12456000 V 22500000 3/4
S 12483000 V 22500000 3/4
S 12671000 V 22500000 3/4

scanned:

# dvbscan ./OptusB1-160.0E
scanning ./OptusB1-160.0E
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
initial transponder 12456000 V 22500000 3
initial transponder 12483000 V 22500000 3
initial transponder 12671000 V 22500000 3

Done.

and ... nothing happend, I can't tune into any of channels.

I'm an absulte n00b regarding dvb (in any kind, shape or form) but I
was hoping to actually get something going. So now a few questions:

1. Should it work at all? (ie whether using a sky dish and the card i have)
2. If so - what have I missed?

thx

LNB Sky install is not a universal, which most of the DVB tools expect.
LOF is either 11.3GHz or 10.75GHz depending on how new the install was..

I wrote up a bit about what I think people need to know here:

Great page :-) That help me to understand this a little bit more,
however, I still have a problem locking to signal:

# dvbtune -f 1773000 -s 22500 -p v -m
Using DVB card "DST DVB-S"
tuning DVB-S to L-Band:-1208885440, Pol:V Srate=22500000, 22kHz=off
ERROR setting tone
: Invalid argument
polling....
Getting frontend event
FE_STATUS:
polling....
polling....
polling....
polling....
polling....
polling....
polling....

and the same for the second frequency:
# dvbtune -f 1183000 -s 22500 -p v -m
Using DVB card "DST DVB-S"
tuning DVB-S to L-Band:-1208426688, Pol:V Srate=22500000, 22kHz=off
ERROR setting tone
: Invalid argument
polling....
Getting frontend event
FE_STATUS:
polling....
polling....
polling....

The thing that makes me wonder is that the L-Band doesn't look right.
Any ideas.

thx
