Tuner Cards
I see that Ascent have the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150MCE on special at the
moment: http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=342425
I note that this page says this card works with Windows XP MCE only... is
this true or would I be able to get it to work with MythTV?

Mine works in mythtv. Hopefully they have not changed the specs/chipsets.

I've found that tradepc do a good price -
http://www.tradepc.co.nz/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=241&strPageHistory=cat
But then I'm in CHCH so I can just drive round to pick it up :-)

I'm running the retail 150mce so I've got the remote with the USB receiver
and it goes really well on the ivtv-0.4.0 drivers (even the FM radio). I'd
recommend the remote for WAF as it allows jump points to music, gallery,
recorded TV, DVD etc.

Cheers

It's a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo which is based on the Philips saa7134 chip
(from memory, it's not handy at the moment)

I have a SAA7134 based card that works fine - mine's a lifeview prime 34
from memory again.

It works in mythtv, but the machine lacked the power to run it - software
encoder etc.

So now I use that as part of another machine, doing other non-myth stuff
(but still on a linux box)

Those Pinnacle cards have several designs selling as the same model.
Some of them have bt878 chips, some have saa7134. They've also changed
the tuner unit. Compare:
http://www.dolda2000.com/~fredrik/lf/tv-kort-2.jpg (old style tuner
unit with the chunky metal shield) and
http://www.dolda2000.com/~fredrik/lf/tv-kort.jpg
I suspect that new tuner unit is a "silicon" tuner. So far there are
no linux drivers for silicon tuners as no-one has released specs. I
almost got caught out with a DSE TV tuner card (this one:
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/XH6861) with a
SAA7134 that has a silicon tuner. In my case I returned the card to
DSE because the box claimed it was Linux compatible when it wasn't.
