Heartbeat 0.4.5a prerelease available for download
I've uploaded heartbeat 0.4.5a to the download directory of the web site, but
there are no pointers to it on the web site. The last part of the URLs are what
you'd expect:

heartbeat-0.4.5a.tar.gz
heartbeat-0.4.5a-1.src.rpm
heartbeat-0.4.5a-1.i386.rpm

You'll find them under:
http://www.henge.com/~alanr/ha/download

Give it a shot, and see what you think.

Hint: There's a new directive called "auth" in a new file called authkeys.
There's a sample in the doc directory.

You can send heartbeat a SIGHUP, and it'll reread the authkeys file (only) and
use new key information in it. It

Needs some good documentation (hint...)

I've set up a mirror of them at ftp://ftp.tummy.com/pub/mirrors/linuxha/
They should start getting picked up by filewatcher.org within the next
24 hours.

Actually, may I ask why? ;-) I was subscribed automatically to linux-ha-dev,
but from the traffic on linux-ha it wasn't exactly obvious we needed to split
off a -dev list...

Sorry. I thought it was. I added it to the CVS tree, and the makefile. I
assumed I did it right. Thanks for the feedback.

The keyword chosen for that feature was "facility". It probably should be
logfacility. Facility is a very broad word.

I've been sending quite a bit of mail to a handful of people who are more
closely interested in the development, bugs, etc. of heartbeat than the
majority on the list. I'd say that more than half of the HA mail I send does
not go to the whole list. You haven't gotten much of it. My choosing to
subscribe you to this list was an attempt to rectify that situation, since I
value your input. I had these development and documentation aliases set up a
little differently on different machines, and it was a complete pain for me.

I haven't felt comfortable with running down bugs, clarifying documentation
for heartbeat on the main list. I had also gotten a little feedback that some
of the inquiries I've placed of that nature were off-topic. I do things like
copy answers to questions to the documenters, and I plan on using this list
for that. If it doesn't work out, then we'll do something else.

I'm open to the idea of not using this list, but it would increase the traffic
on the Linux-HA list quite a bit, especially as we pick up speed.

I still plan on using the main list as a place to ask about architecture,
features, etc. at the high level.

OK got it, next error ;-). If you have a blank line at the end of the file
you get this error:
heartbeat: 1999/09/30_07:24:37 error: Auth line [
] is invalid.
heartbeat: 1999/09/30_07:24:37 error: Authentication configuration error.

Then i think someone has to change the example config file ;-)

Because the "general" mailing list covers a lot of strategic and related
topics. This list here is a replacement for the multi-address mails of the
hard core of people who want to define and develop the actual Linux-HA
package.

I have seen other projects that have a general and a developer list, and
I'm confident that interest in HA is high enough so that the general list
will not dry out.

Actually I see this list also in conjunction with the soon-to-come shared
CVS repository for Linux-HA.
