PVR-250 MPEG Capture Problem
Thanks to this thread for showing me how to capture:
[ivtv-users] S-video; how to get audio?I am on OpenSUSE 11.1, kernel 2.6.27
Using Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250, composite input from VCR

Per Andy. in the referenced thread, I do this:
v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --set-input 2
Video input set to 2 (Composite 1)
cat /dev/video0 > foo.mpg
Wait 10 seconds or so and stop it.
mplayer foo.mpg
Get 10 seconds of black screen and the output below. Joystick and audio
messages deleted. My interest is video.
I would appreciate suggestions.
Peter

P.S.
VLC also plays black.
The same board works on Windows with Hauppauge WinTV v6.

This looks more like a mplayer problem.
Try "mplayer -vo x11 foo.mpeg"

This does the same as without the options. Plays a black video clip.
VLC plays it the same.

Re: PVR-250 MPEG Capture Problem [ In reply to ]
With the same card and cables I can capture and play video on Windows XP
using Hauppauge WinTV v6 software.
On Linux I can't capture and/or can't play.
Windows VLC plays the video I captured on XP with WinTV v6, but videos
captured on Linux are black.
Linux mplayer configuration may be wrong. GUI mplayer gives following error
when I try to play a file.
"Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device."
In /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf:
#vo=xv
I tried vo=xv and vo=x11. No help.

Have no idea what I am doing.
Thanks for your interest.
Peter

I'll try and look at this tonight. I've been away on travel.

However, I only have a PVR-350 and PVR-150MCE and not a PVR-250
though.

Andy

You must have better things to do. I'm going to take a break. Today is
manual labor day.
