conflict package
Hi there,

I usually update my gentoo box daily, and everything worked well until
the last time I emerge. I do not remember which packages were updated
but in the next day I couldn't use the su command (and I am sure the
user were in the wheel group). After that the system could not start
(apparently due to partition corruption). After some time I realised
that my /etc/fstab were changed by the system (the old one were saved as
fstab~). Then I moved fstab~ to fstab and the system worked (almost)
fine: without X and network. But both could be load manually. Today I
tried to update the system and I received a message saying that xfree is
in conflict with another package and therefore it cannot be installed.
The output of emerge -puvD world is:

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ....^H^H ...done!

Does anyone know how to solve conflict like this?

regards,

Flavio.

Re: conflict package [ In reply to ]
It seems that the new portage is more demanding ;-)

You'll have to choose between XFree and xorg. If I were you, I would
unmerge XFree, but that's your choice.
You'll have to choose between modutils and module-init-tools. If you use
a 2.6 kernel, unmerge modutils or vice-versa.
You'll have to choose between quicktime4linux and openquicktime. I can't
advice on this one, but you'll have to unmerge one of them.

I got caught on some of those too.
