Q. on devfs.
Hi,
When I boot my system I get a message that
Gentoo linux uses devfs and that I should
compile my kernel with this built-in. Is this something
that I removed when I was running menuconfig?
I'm using the liveCD with linux-2.4.26-gentoo-r6
and I did a stage 3 install.

Yes, devfs (or udev, needs 2.6 kernel) is required for gentoo.

Read the "configuring kernel" -section of the installation hand book.
