Newbye: icewm installation
I'm frantically trying to bring up my Gentoo linux box to work. A Debian
linux old user now I'm having a go at installing Gentoo with some difficulties.

Now I've smoothly installed (compiling from scratch) icewm (emerge icewm)
and I'm not able to make this wm start. I've followed the instruction and
build a $HOME/.Xclients file copying the exact content of the example in
the html instructions (point 3 and 3.1). To no avail. When I ussue "X" under
the user for which .Xclients has been created all I get is a gray graphics
surface with a mouse poiner in the middle, nothing else.

I apologize for my flooding the list with this installation problems but
perhaps if someone would tell me a step by step procedure to have icewm
work I could finally catch the "spirit", the "nutshell" of Gentoo approach
with respect to the Debian one.

Thanks again
Vittorio

Just put the commands in the instructions in $HOME/.xinitrc and use the
startx command to fire it up.
