i'm trying to figure out this whole encryption thing. i have "crypt" in my
use flags, and as a result, when i compiled kdepim-3.3.0-r1, it had gpgme as
a dependency. everything compiled fine and i can start kgpg manually and
create my own key. i can also use that key to sign an email and send it to
myself and the handy highlighting in kmail then tells me that the signing is
all good. ...but that's where the successes end.
[ problem 1 ]: i did this same procedure at work, and created a signed email,
sending it to my home computer. it arrives here with the hellow highlight
telling me the signature is "unknown" even after i import the public key
(.asc) i created and mailed to myself.
[ problem 2 ]: sending encrypted mail goes out just fine, but when it
arrives, i can't read it. even if i used my default key to encrypt it, i
still get the blue hightlight with the following message:
Encrypted message (decryption not possible)
Reason: Crypto plug-in "openpgp" could not decrypt the data.
Error: Bad passphrase
...but it never asked me for a passphrase.
[ problem 3 ]: when i restart kde, kgpg complains that gpg-agent isn't running
(i enabled it since kmail was complaining that i should have it to avoid
having to type my passphrase for each email). kgpg's error message is as
follows:
The use of GnuPG Agent is enabled in GnuPG's configuration file
(/home/gabriel/.gnupg/gpg.conf). However, the agent does not seem to be
running. This could result in problems with signing/decryption. Please
disable GnuPG Agent from KGpg settings, or fix the agent.
so then i went hunting. there's some docs talking about needing pinentry and
newpg, but newpg isn't even in portage and i get the impression that these
instructions are outdated anyway, so what am i supposed to be doing here?
all i want to do is be able to send and receive signed email and maybe
encrypt stuff too.
thanks for any insight.
