Problem with gnome background
Hi,

Last night I ran an emerge -uD world, that installed the following
packages. (I am including them all, though some obviously cannot be
responsible).

sys-libs/ncurses-5.4-r5
media-libs/libpng-1.2.7
x11-base/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2
x11-libs/gtk+-2.4.9-r1
dev-util/indent-2.2.9-r1
dev-libs/libusb-0.1.8
x11-themes/hicolor-icon-theme-0.5
sys-libs/readline-4.3-r5
media-libs/gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0-r3
x11-misc/xscreensaver-4.16
net-print/cups-1.1.20-r2
dev-perl/SGMLSpm-1.03-r5
sys-apps/procps-3.2.3-r1
net-print/foomatic-filters-3.0.2
net-print/foomatic-db-engine-3.0.2
net-print/foomatic-3.0.2
net-www/mozilla-launcher-1.19
net-www/mozilla-firefox-1.0_pre
app-arch/sharutils-4.2.1-r10
net-misc/dhcpcd-1.3.22_p4-r5
gnome-extra/gcalctool-4.4.16
media-libs/id3lib-3.8.3-r3
sys-apps/hdparm-5.7-r1
sys-fs/devfsd-1.3.25-r8
net-irc/xchat-2.4.0

This morning gnome (v2.6.2-r1) is refusing to show a background image,
even if I reselect one. I dont get an error message even when starting
gnome-background-properties from the CLI. However I notice the following
in /var/log/messages :

Oct 2 14:50:10 earth bonobo-activation-server : iid
OAFIID:BrokenNoType:20000808 has a NULL type
Oct 2 14:50:10 earth bonobo-activation-server : invalid character '#'
in iid 'OAFIID:This#!!%$iid%^$%_|~!OAFIID_ContainsBadChars'

I tried re-emerging oaf and libbonobo, to no avail.

Anybody any ideas?

JS

ps I ran it on two differant machines with differant hardware and
differant kernel versions and got the same result.

ok, I know I am replying to myself, but I have solved this. At some
point (presumably while drunk) I set my use flags to -jpeg, and then I
wonder why gnome wont display jpegs!
