Emerge K3b under Gnome (qt/kde dependency?)
Hi,

yet another question.

I intend to only use the gnome desktop environment, however, I'm more
used to using k3b to burn CDRs.

Hence, my make.conf USE flag has "qt"

I am wondering if when I emerge gnome, should I use

# USE="-qt -kde" emerge gnome

and then do

# emerge k3b

or should I just not care??

I see these in the diff output

neuromancer / # USE="-qt -kde" emerge gnome -p > /tmp/gnome
neuromancer / # emerge gnome -p > /tmp/gnome2

Hi!

You donĀ“t need "qt" in your make.conf USE variable, when an
application requires qt it will be emerged.

Sorry for my poor English.

Gnome doesn't use QT, KDE does. If you're not going to use KDE at all,
you might as well just put "-kde -arts" in your make.conf so that you
don't have to worry about doing it for individual packages.

K3b can be emerged without KDE as a whole (you will need qt and kdelibs,
however), but you must emerge it -kde and -arts. You should also know
that when you emerge k3b -kde, you will NOT get K3bSetup2 compiled with
the program, so if you get an error on startup saying that
cdrecord/cdrdao/you name it does not have root privileges, you will have
to make the programs setuid manually, because you will not be able to
run K3bSetup2 to do it for you, as the warning will advise.

Otherwise, it's fine (I run K3b and a few other 'K' programs without
having KDE installed.

Hope this helps.
