Partial Install of Gentoo?
I want to install Gentoo (the ppc version) but don't want to tie up my
computer until I reach the specified point where I can reboot. Can I install
the base system in one night, then reboot and do the rest the next day --
without having to start over from step one? Thanks.

yes you can stop at any point just as long as it's not in the middle of
compiling something

You probably won't be able to follow the installation manual step by
step that way though. I got myself into trouble with this the first
time. Depending on where you reboot, you may need one of more extra
steps. These extra step possibilities include:

mount
chroot
env-update
source

But maybe you knew that already.

Those commands seem familiar. What I want to do is install the basic system,
install yaboot (the ppc multi-bootloader) and then call it an evening and
pick up from there the next day. I don't want to keep repeating steps over
and over because I quit in the middle of a step.

It won't be like that. The steps you'll need to repeat are quick and
easy and they're just to get you back to the "right spot" in the
system. I don't know where the bootloader step would come up in a ppc
installation but with x86 that's pretty much the end so you wouldn't
need to repeat a thing.

I could, but I'd probably have to use the computer for work during the day.
I'd like to restrict Gentoo installation for over a couple evenings.

Can't you just leave it on overnight?
