Kernel problems
I tried enabling some APM features in the kernel and when it tried to
boot to it, the screen filled and started scrolling with some strange
blocks of code. It did that for about 10 seconds or so and then
rebooted. Booting from a LiveCD and chrooting, I've tried to
reconfigure and recompile the kernel but I get strange errors about
something being set to a time in the future. I have re-emerged
hardened-sources several times, and even started over with no .config
file. I'm now getting a different weird error every time I try to
recompile the kernel. How can I just start over with this kernel?

Try touch -R * /usr/src/linux from the chroot to reset the filetimes.
Another option would be to make sure it is cleared all the way out,
and then re-emerge hardened-sources.
