Graphics Issues
I just got my hands on a Visualize J5600 dual 64-bit w/1.5 gigs of ram
and a VisualizeFX4 graphics card. I know that I will probably never
be able to get the FX4 working in framebuffer mode but was wondering
if anyone has had any luck with an S3/Virge card. If someone has
could you please give me a little insight as to what I have to do to
get it working for me.

The other thing is I know that the VisualizeEG card is fairly well
supported but I can not find one anywhere. Does someone have one
laying around that they would like to trade for something? Just some
ideas.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Derek Tracy

Honestly your best bet is to lurk on ebay.
People typically don't bid on HP hardware - especially when they are in the
wrong category or when people don't know what they are ;)

I have been trying that but the cheapest VisualizeEG card I could find
was/is $79.99 that is crazy. The card only goes to 8bit color and
only has 4mb of ram == not worth $79.99

That just aggrevates me :-)

Do you have HP-UX on this system? If you check it, you will find XFree
in it. :-)
If the HP-UX's Xfree supports it, I think any Xfree can support it.
For framebuffer try to use standard VESA modes.

I'll try gentoo on my B180L workstation, but I afraid, this install
will be looooooooooooong time. :-)

If you wants to use linux on this system, why do you want to use HP
supperted graphics card? Just have a try with a well supported (by
Xorg or XFree) PCI card.

I don't want to push you to use HP-UX.
But I'm supporting it in worktime and I know, there are lots of GNU
tools are ported and supported by HP.

Maybe you are right. Therefore you will not see the messages until the
kernel loaded and switched to FB mode. But, if You have a serial
terminal, you can use it to see the boot messages. If I found my old
S3 Trio 64 PCI VGA card, I'll test it in my B180L workstation.

It maybe true, but only for PDC messages. When the linux kernel
loaded, it can use the "incompatible" card. But I'll test it.

Would it be possible for me to put the S3 Virge card in the primary
slot and put the FX4 board in the secondary slot and still get it to
display the console without using a serial console?

Maybe. But then you will need two monitors or one with two input.
