Based on version this looks like an abandoned project ...

and on SF at least ... last commit in on 2008-02-29?

The ebuild itself (other thank a single sec update thanks to Sam who
seems to be tracking everything security related out there) there has
been no real work (other than dragging it along, changes probably
suggested by automated checks for the most part) done since dist tree
migration from CVS to git.  The only "major" commit other than Sam's
security update to add a patch was to update the syntax for dependencies.

It does require root permissions, for a start.
