Kernel
I am trying to upgrade from sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r14 to
sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 and I keep getting the following
errors:

LD .tmp_vmlinux1
arch/x86_64/kernel/built-in.o(.init.text+0x22a9): In function `late_hpet_init':
: undefined reference to `hpet_alloc'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

I have tried every combination (module, compiled in, and none) of
CONFIG_HPET_TIMER and CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC and it seems to make no
difference. Any ideas?

Re: Kernel [ In reply to ]
there is a bug report about the hpet problem in 2.6.8-r4:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63360
but no suggestions have been added.
the solutions in the forum did not work for me either.

Hi

I can confirm this - just today I was installing AMD64 Gentoo, and I
encountered this very error.

Yeh, I have done, and the solutions didn't work - at least the ones I could
see in Links :)

I figured it out. For those of you that wish to use an old .config file,
make sure you have ACPI Support compiled in. Otherwise, the other HPT
options won't even appear. However, when ACPI is compiled in, you should
see the options under:

At the very top level, you should see
[*] Provide RTC interrupt

Then,

Device Drivers --->
Character devices --->
[*] HPET - High Precision Event Timer
[*] Allow mmap of HPET

The kernel should compile normally again.
