You may hit a bug #461 - check Bugzilla for temporary workaround.

What is the output of command: exinext xxxx@hughes.net ?

I suspect that you are seeing intended behaviour. See bug 12 for an
explanation, then please tell us if the behaviour described there is the same
as what you describe here, and whether my suspicion was correct.
