Ah, there already was a wish for that. I too think that there should be some
way to concatenate many strings efficiently in local_scan(). Either
string_cat() or something else (string_cat() is a bit internal-looking with all
the pointers the caller has to take care of between calls; some struct could
have made it more transparent).
