I'm not sure you need to ask us for permission, as long as you make the
source code to Ethereal available, and otherwise do as the GNU General
Public License, Version 2:

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

requires you to do, as Ethereal is licensed under the GPL, Version 2.

However, nobody appears to be developing Ethereal any more; the core
Ethereal development team are now working on Wireshark, as the note
added to your message above indicates.

You should put Wireshark onto the CD, rather than putting Ethereal onto
the CD, if you can.

(I'm not sure why Ethereal or Wireshark would be relevant to a book on
USB storage devices; it doesn't support capturing USB traffic, although
you can put a copy of it on a USB storage device as a "portable
application", at least for some platforms.)
