[clamav-users] Status of SafeBrowsing CVD
Hi,

What is the current status of the SafeBrowsing CVD as of April 2020? No
updates has been published since November 2019. Is SafeBrowsing support
currently deprecated and if so shouldn't it be unpublished? Will it not
case more and more false-positives over time?

Found this on bugzilla

https://bugzilla.clamav.net/show_bug.cgi?id=12463

Regards

Erik

Erik,

Thank you for asking.

We have discontinued the distribution of safebrowsing.cvd, as Google is now charging for access to this API. We plan to open source the tool we made to create this CVD file so anyone can get their own API key from Google and do it themselves. We just haven’t been able to get this out with competing development priorities.

Re: [clamav-users] Status of SafeBrowsing CVD [ In reply to ]
I know that Google sets a time limit on it’s database which doesn’t allow a detection to be reported unless the database meets that limit. I would assume that ClamAV enforces such limits and that any user who has enabled SafeBrowsing has not been actually protected by this database since November.

Does ClamAV ignore that setting and not waste time using the out-of-date SafeBrowsing CVD to scan files or check for an update or do they need to turn it off in configuration files?
